A Memorial Service is to be held for PDG Dave Ker at St. Mary's Kerrisdale, 2490 W 37th Ave, Vancouver, BC on December 30, 2017 at 2 p.m.
PDG Dave Ker died on November 15, 2017.
Dave was born in Victoria, BC in 1929, where he received his early education. He received a BA (Economics) degree from UBC, an MBA from the University of Western Ontario and qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
Dave and his wife, Lis, were married in 1960 in Denmark, where Lis was born. They made their home in Vancouver and Salt Spring Island. They have two sons, Robert who is married and lives in Denmark, and John, who lives on Salt Spring.
Dave held several executive positions in the accounting department during nineteen years with Canadian Pacific Airlines. Then he became a partner in a lumber export business, followed by ten years operating a public accounting practice.
Dave joined the Rotary Club of Vancouver South in 1977. He served as Governor of District 5040 in 1996-97.  He was a Rotary Special Representative for chartering the Rotary Clubs of Novosibirsk and Barnaul in Russia. Dave traveled to eastern Russia many times to promote Rotary.
During his year as governor Dave hosted Rl President Luis Giay and his wife, Celia, in July when they visited Vancouver for an International AIDS Conference, and in August for a Rotary International New Generations conference.
Lis and Dave became members of the Arch Klumph Society of The Rotary Foundation. Lis and Dave founded the David and Lis Ker Scholarship Endowment Fund with The Rotary Foundation, to provide scholarships for students from Siberia to attend an introductory business program at BCIT in Burnaby, BC. The endowment now funds Rotary Peace Fellow scholarships.

Dave and Lis were advocates for friendship exchanges with Russian Rotarians. This included a spouse’s initiative to bring the partners of Russian Rotarians to Canada.
In 2003, Dave was recognized by The Rotary Foundation with the Meritorious Service Award in recognition of his work in Russia.
A date for a celebration of David’s life will be announced at a later date.
