This Community Service Project is based on the philosophy that peace begins in the Family, in the Home and in the Community. The 4th Object of Rotary is to promote world peace, to meet the objective, we need to survey our own communities and seek areas where we can assist our Government and local Community Service organizations in making our communities peaceful and safe. By growing the number of peaceful communities for our citizens to live in, we can gradually make a difference in causing peace and harmony in our world.

Inspired by the 2008 Rotary World Peace Summit in Windsor, Eleanor Kendell of the Kitimat Rotary determined to make Kitimat a Peace Community. On September 21st, 2009, the Rotary Club of Kitimat spearheaded the marking of the United Nations International Day of Peace by making a human peace sign in the community's mall parking lot. 327 people all in high spirits in spite of stormy weather showed up. On September 21st, 2010, 216 Kitimatians launched a ballon of peace. Read more on information from the left.
