Rotary members contribute their skills, expertise, and resources to help solve some of the world’s toughest problems. From providing clean water to promoting peace worldwide, Rotary Foundation grants bring service project ideas to life, including those we lead in our own communities.
To learn more about The Rotary Foundation, which enables much of what we do in Rotary, members of our clubs in District 5040 are encouraged to attend “The Rotary Foundation – putting it to work for you” (formerly known as Grant Management Seminar).
In fiscal year 2018, The Rotary Foundation provided more than US$86 million in grants, and some of that funding came our way to clubs in District 5040:
$10.9 million in grants given for education and literacy projects
$35.6mil in grants given for disease prevention and treatment
$10.5mil in grants given for growing local economies
$18.7milin grants given to water and sanitation projects
Learn more about global grants, but district grants can support projects in your community, with plenty of freedom to customize, such as:
- humanitarian projects, including service travel and disaster recovery efforts;
- scholarships for any level, length of time, location, or area of study;
- youth programs, including Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Rotaract, and Interact;
- vocational training teams, which are groups of professionals who travel abroad either to teach local professionals about their field or to learn more about it themselves;
- and more.
For a club to be eligible to receive a Rotary Foundation District Grant or a Global Grant in this Rotary year of 2019-20 attendance by at least one members of the club is required at one of the following seminars, but two are recommended. Attendance at seminars in previous years does not provide that qualification.
As many members as your club can send are send are welcome, but the recommended attenders are your club’s President-Elect (incoming President) and the club member(s) who would normally complete and be responsible for the District and/or Global Grant application, typically the club’s chair for The Rotary Foundation.
At the seminar participants will:
- obtain a general overview of the rotary international and district 5040 grant process;
- learn how to qualify your club to receive rotary foundation grant funds and complete the memorandum of understanding;
- acquire the tools for successful management of rotary foundation grants;
- be able to complete both the district and global grants forms;
- understand how to identify, develop and implement a project;
- know how to manage and report the progress of a grant;
- meet one of the requirements for qualification for a grant.
The Rotary Foundation – putting it to work for you seminar is held in each region in conjunction with the “Year Ahead 2019-20” session on the previous day. The 2019-20 Foundation seminar schedule is listed below.
For just $40, lunch included, you can attend, and bring other club leaders, and new members with you. (If appropriate, your club may pay for your registration).
