The hospital at 100 Mile House, BC serves a population of 25,000 who live in town and the surrounding rural communities travel time for patients and families from home to town can take as much as two hours. The community has had an urgent need for a new $115,000 Palliative Care Unit at the hospital. To support the opening of the Palliative Care Unit, the Rotary Club of 100 Mile House has contributed two hospital grade visitor chairs at a cost of $3,561, with $2,374 from the club and $1,187 from The Rotary Foundation through a District Grant.

The facility will allow family members to remain with their loved ones during their last days. The space is primarily intended to support palliative individuals whose care needs are higher or more complex than can be managed in the Hospice suite or at home. Special attention has been given to the design to create a warm and comforting home environment for both client and family.

Up to 10 Rotarians were involved in raising funds from the club by renting out the club’s portable stage to a local church for drive-in Sunday services during COVID and through local bottle recycling programs. As a contribution to the local economy, the chairs were purchased from LakeTown Furnishings LTD in Williams Lake, BC.
