Achievements and activities of some of our clubs in Rotary District 5040 in the past 30 days or so. The photo features another successful season of Operation Red Nose by Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako.
Some recent achievements and activities in District 5040 clubs as reported by Assistant Governors
for February 2025. There is much more planning and other activity in clubs,
but these are current results, projects completed.

Burnaby
The club is working on membership development once a month evening meeting with potential members.
Working with Lions Gate Club on a school for the Deaf in Bali.  Furniture has been ordered. 
 
Burnaby Metrotown
Purchased coats for Coats for Kids and raised over $2,500 for the Coldest Night of the Year on Feb 22nd.
 
Burnaby Rotaract
Raised $1,000 for Coldest Night of the Year as well as giving warm sock, underwear and shirts.
Helped with Rotary World Help container loading.
 
Dragon
The club assisted Burnaby Spring Festival Gala and raised $10,000 for Burnaby Hospital Foundation.
 
Gibsons
The club inducted a new member and presented a Paul Harris Fellow Award.
The club heard three classification speeches.
The club held a lunch to celebrate Rotary’s 120th Anniversary on February 23rd.
 
Ladner
A work party of club members restored the condition of 130 fundraising Canadian Raise A Flag flags and poles and tested and repaired the large collection of Christmas lights which decorate the outdoors of the Delta Hospital, its Extended Care and the Irene Thomas Hospice.
Presenters at club meetings included Cheryl Gipson of the B.C. Women’s Health Foundation on the great advances in women’s and newborn’s health care; new Delta’s Chief Constable Harj Sidhu on the good community involvement with the police; Delta Police Constable Dustin Classen of the Cybercrimes Unit of the DPD talked to us about online computer scams and how to recognize and avoid them; Delta Community Living Society.
 
Lions Gate
The foundations have been completed for the new classrooms at the Sushrusa School for Deaf and Hearing-Impaired Children in Denpasar, Bali, which the Burnaby and Lions Gate clubs have proudly supported for 18 years with support of a District Grant.
 
New Westminster
Fifth annual Bevies and Bites raised $15,000 with 275 attendees.
Another new member was inducted.
 
New Westminster – Royal City
Club launched its annual Heart of the Matter fundraising auction.
 
New Westminster Rotaract
Members volunteered with New West Bottle Drop and Bevies and Bites.
 
North Vancouver
Sorted eyeglasses at Third World eyecare and sponsored a student for RYLA and another for Adventures in Citizenship.
 
Pender Harbour 
Members held a visioning session and planning included a member survey and a zoom town hall meeting.
President Elect Ian Grant has taken over as President because his predecessor had to step down.
 
Powell River
President of Powell River Board Real Estate Board updated members and guests on the local market.
Members were recruited to help with the 81st annual qathet Festival of the Performing Arts, which the club has supported since 2003.  
Three outstanding Brooks Secondary School Students shared their work with the school’s Mental Health Advocacy Group by explaining their efforts to reduce the stigma of asking for help, when, as a survey of others at their school reported, high levels of stress came from their schoolwork, social pressure and family issues.
The CEO of the Nature Conservancy Trust of BC spoke to the club: it identifies ecologically diverse areas, raises funds to acquire them, then restores and maintains them; one in five species in Canada is at risk of being lost; BC is the most biodiverse province in Canada. 
Powell River, Sechelt and Pender Harbour clubs have sold enough fundraising puzzles to provide its continued support after three years of the Mothers First (Formerly Amarok Society) with $8,000 per year to continue operating in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
A February 26th Social Night "Let's Play” games night included a pot luck dinner at the Cranberry Seniors Centre.
 
Prince George Downtown
The club continues its school breakfast program, supporting five schools. 
The club has recently attracted five new members with a 6th member to be inducted soon.
 
Prince George Nechako
Finished the major fundraiser (Operation Red Nose) which was extremely successful, with corporate sponsorships, ICBC support and riders donations, and attraction of new members.  The club has raised over $1 million 25-year history. 
 
Prince George Yellowhead
The club continues to actively support the Ron Brent School (reader program) and expanding this program to Harwin elementary school.
This club is building a community garden within an elementary school.
It is also interviewing 80 students for 50 positions in Adventures in Health Care.  It is also adding a first responders adventure program as well to increase awareness with the Fire, Police and Ambulance services. 
After a slight drop in membership the club has inducted a new member tonight or next week. 
The three Rotary Clubs, Rotaract Club and Interact Club are busy organizing Hoop A Thon in partnership with the UNBC Timberwolves. 
 
Quesnel
The club hosted its fourth and final Super Bingo for 2024-25
Members participated in Coldest Night of the Year, raising $1600 and counting for local community organization Amata Transition House
Six participants are registered by the club for RYLA South, including three co-sponsored by Rotary Club of Sunshine Coast.
The Beer Festival has sold 80% of its spaces.
 
Richmond
The club held its annual fundraising event, Lunar New Year Gala on February 9th with over 220 people attending from various clubs and raised $22,000.
Two new members gave classification speeches.
Vivian Tian, General Manager from the Graduate Student Society of UBC presented on the Society’s Holiday Hamper project to assist students and families facing financial challenges
 
Richmond Rotaract
Volunteered and assisted in the silent auction at the Rotary Club of Richmond Lunar New Year Gala on 9 February.
Club members attended the Street Saviours volunteer trip on 19 February.
Hosted a club bowling social at Splitsville Richmond Riverport on 22 February.
 
Richmond Sunrise
Hosted and donated $10,000 to Dr. S. Rai for cleft pallet surgeries in Third World, as featured on Global TV news. 
Working on 100% for members to get Criminal Record Checks - now at 97%.
A former Rotaract member has joined the club.
Sponsoring four students to attend RYLA.
 
Richmond Sunset
Club members participated in a community Asian Heritage Fair at Lansdowne Shopping Centre centre court.
Fundraising for the Rotary Peace Park continued, selling the 800 bricks, 15 Posts and 7 benches .
Club members participated in a community Asian Heritage Fair at Lansdowne Shopping Centre centre court.
Fundraising for the Rotary International Peace Garden continued, selling the 800 bricks, 15 Posts and 7 benches so far with completion expected by November 2025.
The club celebrated Chinese New Year with dinner for 25 attended and a presentation on "What is Addictions".
Club members joined those from RC Richmond for a booth at Lansdowne Mall to promote Rotary, Polio Eradication and the Peace Garden.
The club reviewed its bylaws and reduced the document from 15 pages to 4.
 
Sechelt
A Valentines/Thank You Cards Assembly was held on February 5th.
Several club members and friends of Rotary met for hours to assemble 1,300 handmade/decorated Valentine’s Day/Thank You cards which were distributed to Health Care Workers of all kinds from Pender Harbour to Gibsons!
The Interact Club of Chatelech Secondary held a fundraiser at the school for the Coast Salvation Army Food Provision Services. It held a second fundraiser for the UNICEF Gaza Appeal, with UNICEF doubling the donation to support families in Gaza.
Members gathered to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of Rotary.
 
Squamish
The club held the community’s Coldest Night of the Year event.
 
Steveston
Nancy Fan, of RC Vancouver Centennial presented a $1,000 cheque to support the Steveston Rotary Fire Trailer program.
The club inducted a new member.
 
Sunshine Coast Sechelt 
Rotary's February theme of Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution was the topic for a club meeting. 
The Interact Club held a bottle drive.
The club is sponsoring three additional students from Quesnel for RYLA South.
The club has collaborated with Valley to continue producing emergency address signage, which helps first responders locate rural homes efficiently, having provided $25,000 worth of signs over five years.
A Fireside Chat was held for new members on February 18 to familiarize them with Clubrunner. , Adventures in Citizenship selection process, status of Criminal Record Checks.
The club hosted a multi club luncheon at the Sunshine Coast Golf Club as four clubs celebrated Rotary’s 120th birthday.
 
Tsawwassen
For the 60th anniversary of the Canadian Maple Leaf flag on Feb 15 the club flew the flags at the Entrance to Tsawwassen sign.
The club’s shredding event raised $6,500.
One member gave an excellent talk on his three-week trip to India.
A group of members attended the Sidekick players production of “Bedtime Stories”.
 
Vancouver Cambie
The club has applied for Charity status to Canada Revenue Agency.
Attended Arbutus club meeting and presented the cheque from the Santa Photo event in December for $1,892 to BC and Alberta Guide Dogs.
 
Whistler
The club received a District Grant of $3,500 received for its support of the Garabaldi Volunteer Fire Department
 
Whistler Millennium
The club held its first annual Hoopathon.
 
Williams Lake Daybreak
The club is supporting 58 chldren from families in need with the Starfish Backpack Program with food on weekends.
