Achievements and activities of some of our clubs in Rotary District 5040 in the past 30 days or so. The photo features a photo from the Pet Santa Photo fundraiser sponsored in part as a fundraiser by Rotary Clubs of Vancouver Cambie, Vancouver Arbutus and Lions Gate.
Some recent achievements and activities in District 5040 clubs as reported by Assistant Governors
for December 2024. There is much more planning and other activity in clubs,
but these are current results, projects completed.

Burnaby – Deer Lake
Christmas lights raised $4,000 and completed the Boots for Kids campaign for 2024.
 
Ladner
A crew of Rotary members and Interact members installed Christmas lights at Delta Hospital, extended care and hospice on November 30.
Inducted of a new member
Two teams of members participated in the distribution of Christmas Food Hampers to lower income families and individuals, with food collected through school food drives then prepared for distribution by Deltassist.
 
New Westminster
Inducted a new member.
Club members participated in the Salvation Army kettles fundraising.
 
New Westminster Rotaract
Members enjoyed a bowling night social in December.
 
New Westminster – Royal City
Annual Christmas auction was held during December and generated much needed funds for deserving charities.
 
Pemberton
EarlyAct Club donated Food and $1000 to the local Foodbank
Interact Club provided Treats and Gifts to Seniors
Raised $3000 for Food Bank from Ring the Bell Campaign.
 
Powell River
Inducted 2 new members.
Partnered with Chamber of Commerce to create the Santa Parade down Marine Ave.
Held the Annual Breakfast with Santa at Dwight Hall with lots of Rotarians and Interactors. 
Richmond
Held a multi-club Christmas Party on December 7. 100 guests from 10 clubs participated.
The club donated $1,200 to the Minoru Senior Society this year. It is our tradition to help out with the Christmas lunch delivery to the vulnerable seniors on the morning of Dec 24. Eight members joined this year's delivery.
 
Prince Rupert
The club sold almost 300 Christmas trees to the public, raising about $5,000. This will be the last year for this fundraiser because the tree supplier can no longer supply the trees.
 
Richmond Sunrise
Pancake breakfast at Gilmore School
Held a toy drive for the Victor Ghirra toy event
Helped load a Rotary World Help shipping container for Ukraine.

Richmond Sunset
The 23rd Winter Wonderland Festival at the Richmond City Hall began on December 1st, with 15 live Christmas trees and 26 inside Christmas trees with 26 sponsors, as the club’s major fundraiser of the year, estimated to generate $60,000+ for community service projects.
On December 7 and 14 the club held free concerts with local musicians and attended by more than 300 residents.
At the December 11 Christmas Potluck dinner raised $1,104 for End Polio.
The joint Rotary Clubs of Richmond held a Christmas Gala on December 7th.
The design of the Rotary International Peace Garden is now complete. The club is grateful to Rotary Club of Richmond for donating $5,000 for this joint club project. A contribution of $200 for a brick, $500 for a peace post, and $2,000 for a seat bench are still available for every Rotarians in D5040 and the entire Rotary World.
 
Squamish
District Grant received for the John Gallo Home.
 
Steveston
In conjunction with Save-On-Foods, in Steveston, the club sponsored and delivered 39 food hampers to local families in the community as identified by school administrators.
The club's evening meeting venue, the Army, Navy and Air Force club, suddenly announced its closure on January 1, 2025 so the club is looking for a new meeting space. 
 
Sunshine Coast Sechelt
Inducted a couple of new members.
Collected warm clothes for delivery to needy in Downtown Eastside
 
Tsawwassen
The club held its annual Christmas in the Park event on December 8, at Diefenbaker Park, with 12 stations of Christmas for kids of all ages, hot chocolate and Santa Claus, and lights turning on at 4:50pm. 
Club members volunteered on December 18 at the South Delta Food Bank to give out 100 bags (50 male and 50 female) of extras such as socks, gloves, scarves, soaps, some sparkly jewelry etc. collected by the club for lower income people.
Members joined many others from a wide range of service groups on December 21 to deliver Christmas Hampers to those in need.
 
Vancouver Cambie, Vancouver Arbutus and Lions Gate
Rotary Clubs of Vancouver Cambie, Lions Gate, and Arbutus held the annual Pet Santa photo event across North Vancouver, Coquitlam, and the Vancouver neighbourhood of Kitsilano and raised $6,277. 50% of proceeds donated to: Regional Animal Protection Society (Vancouver Cambie Club); Squamish Neighbourhood Animal Partnership and Protection (S.N.A.P.P.) (Lions Gate Club); BC and Alberta Guide Dogs Society (Arbutus Club). 39 individuals who participated expressed interest in learning more about Rotary.
