Some recent achievements and activities in District 5040 clubs as reported by Assistant Governors for September and October 2025. There is much more planning and other activity in clubs, but these are current results, projects completed.
Burnaby
Joint gala fundraiser held with Burnaby Metrotown, with proceeds going to Wildlife Rescue and Burnaby Neighbourhood House.
Burnaby Deer Lake
Guest speaker: “Nature Prescriptions for Health” by Cindy Hayto.
“Boots for Kids” program ongoing measuring and distributing boots.
Burnaby Metrotown
Continued delivery of “Coats for Kids” project, the club’s major volunteer effort in October.
Successful Halloween Dinner Fundraiser with Burnaby Club at Holiday Inn.
Monthly “Birthday Book” giveaway at Maywood School on October 31, 2025.
Burnaby Rotaract
Participated in Halloween Fundraiser on October 18.
Ladner
Ladner Rotary donated $2,000 to non-profit corporate member, the Delta Lifeboat Society (DLS), a volunteer crew which serves the mouth of the Fraser River south arm and into Georgia Straight with rescue and navigation services for those working on and enjoying the river and open water. On September 30th club members toured the maritime patrol area with the crew on the 48-foot specially equipped lifeboat.
A Shred A Thon on September 27th raised $2,400 for the South Delta Food Bank, the Delta Secondary School "food pantry" which the club sponsors for students from families in need with food on weekends, and the community Christmas Hamper program.
The club placed Canadian flags on 10-ft poles on the front lawns of $60 subscribers to the week long display around Canada Day and, on this occasion, Remembrance Day as a fundraiser.
Speakers included the Canadian Snowbird Association, Grump Taxpayers of Greater Victoria and Deltones Toastmaster Club.
New Westminster
Purpose School presentation: sewing machine donation project.
Rotary Tower housing project continues to support over 100 seniors and vulnerable individuals.
Exchange student Naomi shared her experiences in France.
Strong youth engagement across programs.
New Westminster Royal City
Presented cheques to Salvation Army and Purpose Independent School from golf fundraiser proceeds.
Members are volunteering in the Poppy Campaign with local Legion.
Social meeting and Blue Jays watch party at Begbies Pub.
Quesnel
The club inducted its fifth new member for 2025-26
The club participated in Bowl For Kids’ Sake, contributing nearly $1,500.
The first Super Bingo of 2025-26 raised nearly $1,700
Held the club’s Halloween Parade of Costumes at the local long-term care facility.
Regal Rotaract
Signed sister club agreement with Rotary Bali Action Club on October 14, 2025.
Signed MOU with Reign Foundation on October 15, 2025.
Welcomed 8 new members.
Launching multiple programs under “Regal & Reign,” including Sugar Shak, Immigration Connections, Women Economic Empowerment (WEE), Hello Heritage, and Chicken Ranch vocational program.
Richmond and Delta Area
The seven Rotary clubs in Richmond and Delta had posted goals in Rotary Club Central in the first quarter of 2025-26.
RC Richmond hosted a joint club BBQ on September 7th, attended by Area clubs and some from Vancouver and North Delta. The call for club reports went out later than normal so some clubs were not able to report.
Richmond
Hosted an End-of-Summer BBQ on September 7th with 45 people from 9 different Rotary clubs, including a D5050 club.
Members participated at Rotary World Help shipping container loading on September 20th.
The club conducted a Membership Satisfaction Survey.
Hosted flu and COVID-19 vaccination clinic on October 26th with a total 80 shots administered by Pharmacist and RC Tsawwassen member, Dr. Edwin Lee.
Richmond Sunrise
The club launched its annual Christmas poinsettia sales fundraiser, supporting The Rotary Foundation and local Richmond service projects.
Sea to Sky
The 4 Sea to Sky Clubs collected a combined $3,500 from individual donations and a $1 per beer from the local pub owner Gibbons.
Steveston
Four fire trailers have been successfully delivered to Indigenous communities in the Fraser Canyon as part of a Disaster Aid Canada grant.
A Write to Read research project examining the engagement and success of the program since its inception that is being conducted by community activist and SFU graduate has now reached the the final report stage.
A paper shred event held at McMath Secondary raised $4,200, which will be going to our Christmas hamper program for needy families in Richmond-Steveston.
Re-established our monthly social meeting place at the recently reopened Army, Navy and Air Force club in Steveston.
Tsawwassen
The club inducted two new members in October.
The Little Library group spruced up the libraries by giving them a new coat of Rotary blue paint.
The Resilient Mind Seminar, held jointly with Elder College, was a sell out, with people coming to hear Terry Small talk about keeping our brains as active as our bodies.
Healthy Living Group is growing every week in the community.
Member Dr. Edwin Lee hosted a flu and COVID Vaccine Clinic at his pharmacy, assisted by Rotarians and Interactors, for 121 people with donations going towards the End Polio campaign.
At a Delta City Council Meeting the club received support for the club’s Coast2Coast Trail project, with praise from Mayor and Council about Rotary’s contributions to the community.
Whistler
The Rotary Club of Whistler’s Rotary Bike Park Plaza project is now complete, on budget, and garnering lots of great local press. A $73,000 project supported by a District Grant and donations from Whistler Millennium and local residents. Grand Opening party in late April, 2026
The Sea to Sky Amazing Race pilot ran successfully in early October
The 2 Whistler clubs will be launching a New Year campaign with social media video, posters, and paid media focused on enticing members to join to help craft and implement the next major 3 to 5 year Rotary community or international project.
William’s Lake
The club supported the Girl Guides with a hot dog and hamburger bbq.
It also supported the orange shirt society with the use of our tables for their celebrations for the students from School District 27.
It hosted a pancake breakfast September long weekend at the local harvest fair.
A club member spoke about their experience with their sister who had Polio and was in an iron lung for 3 months.
Wiliams Lake Sunrise
The barrel race was a success and with over $2,400 proceeds going to Uganda to support mothers and children. (We met these ladies while in Calgary-RI Convention)
The club completed its fourth successful book sale this year
The first movie “night” (Saturday 3pm matinee) was launched in partnership with the local cinema to bring a classic animation family movie (Iron Giant) back to the big screen for families to come and enjoy. Tickets were by donation.
