Powell River Members on Texada Island officially open a gazebo shelter which club members built and sponsored (photo). Here are many of the other achievements and activities of some of our clubs in Rotary District 5040 in the past 30 days or so.

Some recent achievements and activities in District 5040 clubs as reported by Assistant Governors for April 2025. There is much more planning and other activity in clubs, but these are current results, projects completed. Network with other clubs for ideas and stay tuned for future reports. 100 Mile House 
On May 15, attended the PSO High School scholarship ceremony to present this year’s Rotary Scholarship. 
Held a goal-setting session for the upcoming Rotary year. 
Collecting and sorting items for the next yard sale on June 8th.

Burnaby
Club transferred $10,700 to Grenada Rotary Club to help support their May 24th Health Fair.
Transferred $39,000 to the Bali Rotary Club to help build the new six room school for the deaf. Global Grant funds and $6,000 came from North Van Lionsgate Club.

Burnaby – Deer Lake
Members attended Indo African Fundraiser for medical camps in Uganda.
40 people attended the club’s 35th Anniversary Party 
The club had a booth at the Brentwood Mall Volunteer Fair.

Burnaby Metrotown
Annual Fundraiser of selling hanging baskets/planters for Mothers’ Day, raising $1,500 for Coats for Kids project.

Dragon
Dragon Interact Club gave a musical performance on May 24th for Polio Plus at Richmond Aberdeen Mall.

Gibsons 
The club welcomed a new member.
The May 15 guest speaker was Gerry Pageau representing the Sunshine Coast Community Solar Association.
The club is donating $1000to Hospice and $2000for STEM, which supports Science and Technology initiatives and learning.
The May 29th meeting was a hands on meeting doing to clean up Christiansen Village, including Interactors.
As the sponsor, the club joined the Sunshine Coast Rotary Club to celebrate its 25 years. 
This month’s charity was Sunshine Coast KidsSport. The club raised money for them at the weekly meat draws and bi-weekly cribbage tournaments.

Kitimat
The club expects to be finally closed by June 30.

Ladner
The club inducted a team from Fortis BC as a Corporate Member.
Members of the club joined those of the Ladner Business Association to visit the Fortis BC LNG facility in Tilbury Industrial Park.

Lions Gate
Members are attending seven local high schools and one First Nations to hand out scholarship to students who overcame significant challenges.

New Westminster
The newly chartered St Thomas More Collegiate Interact Club organized its first ever Knights Long Table Dinner, with entertainment and speaker on Truth & Reconciliation, raising $1,000 for an art installation, in collaboration with a local Indigenous community, for the school lobby.

New Westminster – Royal City
Members participated in the Hyack parade this past Saturday accompanying the Victim Assistance Program van, partly funded by the club.

Powell River
Members travelled to Texada Island for the grand opening of a gazebo shelter constructed and donated by our club. 
Held a highway clean up on two sections of highway followed by a BBQ at the beach.

Prince George/North
All four clubs have earned the Polio Certificate for donating at least $1,500 US to Polio Plus
All four clubs have earned the RI Club Excellence Award (Presidents Citation).
From the April 8th Hoop A Thon, with 67 participants and sponsored by the Interact, Rotaract and three Rotary clubs over $11,650 was raised, including $430 raised by Interact on their Friday event for Breast Cancer.  

Prince George Yellowhead
The club is working on its District Grant project with Spruceland Community School, filling garden beds, helping with a plant sale.

Prince George Downtown
Held the Atlantic Kitchen Party (Lobster and Prime Rib) event which over $17,000 for school breakfast programs, scholarships and bursaries and youth programs.
The Prince George Community Foundation granted $25,000 to the club for its school breakfast programs at $8,000 per year.

Prince Rupert 
Held a hoop-a-thon on May 10, and raised over $16,000.  
The club is hosting an exchange student this year

Quesnel
Hosted the inaugural Adventures in Healthcare with all partners committed for 2026.
The Ladies Night: Dazzle in Disguise on May 5 supported the local food bank after its premises burned down.
Presented two $500 Scholarships to awardees nominated by Quesnel Festival of the Performance Art.
Committed $1200 to help a local youth choir attend the provincial Festival of the Performance Arts in June

Richmond & Delta Area
The seven Rotary and Rotaract club Presidents and PEs held their fourth of four quarterly forums on Zoom May 13th to discuss challenges and exchange ideas.
The Rotaract Club of Richmond and the four Richmond Rotary clubs collaborated to hold a fundraiser for End Polio at the centre courtyard of Aberdeen Centre with a ceremony featuring local MLAs, MPs' reps, School Board Trustees, District leaders, and booths set up by the clubs and performances by different musical performers from the local Interact clubs throughout the afternoon.

Richmond
Grace Tseng and Jason Tan from Richmond Sunset Club presented to the club on their Rotary Friendship Exchange trip to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
20 members and guests attended a fundraising dinner in Richmond for the Lapu Lapu Festival Attack. 
The club donated $5,000 to the Minoru Senior Society.

Richmond Rotaract
Donated $100 to RC Vancouver Mountain for Lapu Lapu Day victims.
Joined RC Richmond Sunset for Dyke Cleaning and lunch social.
Participated in the joint club End Polio event at Aberdeen Centre on May 24.

Richmond Sunrise
The club held its 35th annual gala and auction on May 2nd, raising almost $130,000.
$17,500 was contributed to Heartwood Charities for disadvantaged women. 
11 members attended the District Conference at the River Rock Casino. 
10 members attended the Kids Play Gala – the club is a major sponsor. 
The club made a donation to the RC Vancouver Mountainview fund to provide support for victims of the Lapu Lapu Festival tragedy.  

Richmond Sunset
The club is welcoming its fifth new member this year.
Club members attended two fundraising events for Lapu Lapu Festival victims.
Grace Tsang and Jason Tam were key organizers with other clubs of the End Polio event at Aberdeen Mall.

Sechelt 
Held a “brainstorming/ trouble-shooting” session.
Members joined with several members of the Restorative Justice Society to host the Salmon Festival, preparing and serving an assortment of BBQ foods. 
The club award bursaries of $2000 each to four high school graduates.

Squamish
The Mayor of Squamish presented at a regular meeting and discussed greater partnership opportunities

Steveston
The club held its most profitable biannual shredding event to date on May 15.
The club is preparing to showcase its Fire Trailer Project at the RI Conference in Calgary in June.
A meat draw fundraiser was held.

Sunshine Coast Sechelt  
Sending a student to Adventures in Citizenship.
Dad and me Dance Sold Out with 400 participants.
Inducted a new (returning) member.
On May 31st the club celebrated its 25th Anniversary celebration at SC Golf and Country Club.

Tsawwassen
The club inducted a new member.
Some members cleaned up trash along 12th Avenue.
Weeded and trimmed garden at Kinsmen
Sorted two more Amazon donations and distributed them. 
Book club met for discussion over a pot luck dinner.
Marcie Mark, from Boys and Girls Club, spoke to the club.

Vancouver
Taking weekly surveys for Net Promoter Score - satisfaction is always in 8+ area
Member Carl Zhang is hosting personal training in preparation for the Ride for Hearing in June.

Vancouver Arbutus
The club held a Polio Plus dinner at a Japanese Restaurant and sold out with 65 attending.  

Vancouver Mountainview
The club continues to generate and provide relief for those in need as victims of the Lapu Lapu tragedy.

Vancouver Sunrise
Two new members inducted
Hoop-A-Thon raised $58,850 with 68 Participants, bringing the total raised over the years from this event of $671,000.

Vancouver Waterfront 
The club is hosting a Vancouver Military Dinner.

Vancouver Yaletown
The club is changing its weekly meeting time to 5pm on Wednesdays and it will assess the success after the first month.
Camille Chatelain, Global Grant recipient, Rotary Club of Huy, Belgium - Hosting Rotary Club of Huy, D2160 Belgium for their Global Grant recipient, Dr. Camille Chatelain who specializes in Clinical Genetics. 

Whistler
Rotary Bike Park Plaza project underway with start in late spring and 2026 District Grant application.
100 Hot dogs served for local version of the Alzheimer’s Walk

Whistler Millennium
Whistler and Millennium Club Annual Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner event made $800 for the Annual Fund

Williams Lake
Inducted 2 new members
At the Grand Opening of the Community Fitness Park provided hamburgers and hotdogs by donation.
Said goodbye to two members who are moving away.
