Ian Evans, of RC Lions Gate, (phhoto) celebrated his 75th anniversary as an active Rotary member on March 2, 2026 – the longest serving member among our 1.4 million members worldwide. Ian will celebrate his 100th birthday this summer. Here are many of the other achievements and activities of some of our clubs in Rotary District 5040 in the past two months.

Some recent achievements and activities in District 5040 clubs as reported by Assistant Governors for February and March 2026. There is much more planning and other activity in clubs, but these are current results, projects completed.
Bowen Island
Regenerating the Amazon through a Village to Village Pilot Project in collaboration with the Nukini Jaguar Peoples' in Western Brazil was a speaker topic which may lead to the club’s application for a Global Grant.
Gibsons
The club’s inaugural Wine and Cheese annual fundraising event on March 28 at the Gibsons Public Market included a silent auction and a disco/dance raising over $10,000.
An evening social session at The Market was followed by a visit to the Gibsons Search and Rescue building to hear about their services to mariners.

Ladner
Club members toured the new $7.1 million BC & Alberta Guide Dogs Breeding and Training Centre in Ladner after donating $15,000 from the club and a third from a District Grant to the capital campaign to purchase five items of lab equipment for use of veterinarians in the special area for newborn puppies for eight weeks.
33 members, spouses and family and friends celebrated Chinese New Year on February 27th Dinner as a social at a Chinese seafood restaurant. Another social event lunch was held on February 3rd.
Speakers at club meetings included representatives of Barnside Brewing Company, Fortis BC on the LNG plant expansion in Ladner’s Tilbury Industrial Park, Dr. Lee Harman, of Arlington, WA, on his “Miss Vicky Challenge” (Miss Vicky is a 1931 vintage car in which he arrived) raising funds for End Polio – the club raised $315 for the campaign with a wine draw, City of Delta CAO Peter Weeber, BC Seniors Advocate Dan Levitt, and Deltassist Executive Director Julie A. Chadwick
The club held a “Fireside Chat” for five new members and two others about to join on March 24th.
Lions Gate North Vancouver
The club celebrated Ian Evan’s 75th anniversary of Rotary membership – believed to be the longest serving, active member throughout the world -- along with Prince George Rotary where Ian had been a member.
The Interact Club at Windor Secondary held a Talent Show fundraiser.
To help organize 2026 Canada Day at the Shipyards the club has engaged an event manager.
Pender Harbour
Over two days club members cut boards, drilled them and then assembled 39 purple martin nest boxes which will be installed in the community.
On March 17 the club held a social for St.Patrick's day at the Legion
Powell River
The club’s annual festival of preforming arts closed out with the grand concert
A work party of members worked on clubhouse restoration for the trail riders.
Members participated in a field trip to a U-brew place to learn about the process
One new member is in the process of joining the club.
Prince George
The club celebrated, along with RC Lions Gate, Ian Evans’s 75th Anniversary in Rotary (March 2nd) as the longest serving Rotarian in the World.
Prince George Rotaract accomplishing the RI Polio Certificate donating US $1,500 to PolioPlus, #1 in Zone 28.
Prince George and Area
The 3 Rotaract clubs have been recognized for giving at least $100 US to the Rotary Foundation, #1 in Zone 28.
District 5040 per capita giving at US$340.04 is #2 in the WORLD
Three quad club socials were held in the 3rd quarter and each of them helped raise $$$ for the Rotary Foundation and allowed inter club integration and led to in-creased collaboration on potential new projects to be funded by all 4 clubs.
The fun curling spiel (25 participants)/lunar new year (60 participants) saw many curl for their first time.
The lunar new year 9 course meal was exceptional and we raised over $500 CDN for PolioPlus.
The Rotaract Club organized a Pints for Polio event on February 19th and raised CDN $1,275 for PolioPlus and increased this donation to US $1,500 -- the first Rotaract Club in Zone 28 in the last 5 years to achieve this level of giving.
All 4 Rotary clubs in Prince George have reached the giving level to earn the RI Polio Certificate to be presented later in the year.
Richmond
Hosted the club’s annual Lunar New Year Gala on March 1 at Continental Seafood Restaurant; 240 people attended and the club raised over $22,000
The RC Richmond Satellite Club hosted its first greet-and-meet event on March 18 at Scotia Bank in Richmond.
Four club leaders attended the inaugural Club Leaders Forum in Vancouver on March 7/8.
Eight Members completed District Grant Training, making the club eligible to apply for a District Grant in 2026/2027
The club approved to the Global Grant for Nong khae hospital in D3350 in Thailand.
Richmond Sunrise
The club is sponsored a Rotary dental mission in lipa Batangas Philippines on Jan 26-28 2026 in partnership with Rotary Club of Lipa. [SEE PHOTOS BELOW]
Richmond Sunset
A Pub Night on March 12 raised $2,200 for two scholarships, for one Interact member at each of Hugh Boyd and Steveston London Secondary Schools.
Three Interactors are being sponsored to attend RYLA.
The club's Chinese New Year dinner social on February 23, raised $1,502 for the Tumbler Ridge community’s long term recovery.
Presentations to the club have included Crime Stoppers’s ‘Fraud and scam prevention for seniors’‘ and AI for seniors.
Sechelt Sunshine Coast
Presented a check to the High School Pac for their lunch program.
The club is experiencing unusual successes with itd House Number Signs programme.
Four youth sponsored to attend RYLA.
Speakers included topics on “Paying Less Personal Income Taxes” and on Our Community Forest.
Steveston
A Meat Draw at the Pioneer Pub raised $500 for the Tumbler Ridge Parent Advisory Council following the attack at the school.
The club donated $2400 for food costs to the Minoru Seniors Society
Three McMath Secondary School Interact members were sponsored to attend RYLA South March 26-29 at Camp Elphinstone.
Tsawwassen
Attendance at club meetings over the past month generated by some great guest speakers, including novelist and ER Physician Daniel Kalla on his latest book, The Deepest Fake, and Delta Mayor George Harvie on community updates.
The club inducted two new members, one transferring from a club in Vancouver on his move to Tsawwasen.
An off-site breakfast meeting was followed by a field trip to the newly opened Elder Centre at the Tsawwassen First Nation.

A Foundation Breakfast on March 19th at KinVillage raised funds for The Rotary Foundation.
Whistler Millennium
The March 4 Hoop-A-Thon included 5 teams, one with Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton, raised $1500 for Whistler Community Services Society
Speakers included Maasai Education Foundation from Tanzania, Kathleen Tennock Pottery Whistler Community Services Society.
