We are known for:
- Presidential Citation Award for the last 4 Years.
- The Rotary Beef BBQ at the annual Squamish Days Logger Sports Festival.
- Community Service:
- annual bike ride in June raises funds for the “Linda Carney Rotary Cares Fund” to assist locals with necessary health care expenses not otherwise covered.
- fundraise and fully support the School Breakfast Program at 6 Squamish elementary schools.
- raise $10,000/year for local community projects through a 50/50 type lottery ticket sale.
- have been successful in obtaining $155,000 in Gaming Grants over the past 10 years to assist local community groups and activities.
- support & participate in many community events including Community Christmas Cares, School Bike Safety Rodeos, Shoreline Cleanup, Pitch-in Week, Hike for Hospice and more.
- Rotary Garden at the Westcoast Railway Heritage Park
- Rotary Pavilion at the Squamish Legacy Sports Park
- pavilion and garden beds at the Squamish Youth Centre
- Chemotherapy Pharmacy at Squamish General Hospital
- Youth Service: support and are actively engaged in YEX, STEP, RYLA, the Adventures Programme, and have an Interact Club and a Rotaract Club.
- International Service: accessed TRF Global Grants for projects in Kenya (maternity clinic), Mexico (school for the hearing impaired), and Guatemala (remote heath clinic), over the past 5 years; currently working on a clean water and sanitation project in Kenya,
- Foundation: supplement our fundraising for the Rotary Foundation by hosting social dinner events where club members host and other members or non-members donate to attend.
- EndPolio: We also hold a Polio Day event and have on-going fundraising for PolioPlus.
- Having FUN!
Our Goals for 2016-17:
- To retain and increase membership.
- To increase participation in local community events.
- Our posted goals in Rotary Club Central.
Events:
On September 8th, 2016, we are celebrating our club’s 50th anniversary with a special dinner at the Squamish Valley Golf Club
Projects:
- assist with putting in a community park
- increase our work with the Squamish Food Bank.
- on September 18th we are participating in a new bike ride to raise awareness and funds for mental health: Ride Away Stigma to encourage open discussion on mental health and help remove the associated stigma.
- on October 22nd we are assisting with a Pumpkin Patch event working with other community groups to provide a community event for young families around Halloween (and promoting the Food bank).
- in February we want to sell and put up Valentine Hearts in Downtown Squamish as a fundraiser
Members recognized:
- Lloyd Ingraham will be 100 years young this year on September 5, 2016. Lloyd joined the club in 1967, 6 months after the club was chartered, and has been very active since. Lloyd is our honorary President for 2016-17. He has been extremely generous in supporting many community initiatives over the years.
