1st Year of the 2nd Century

Dear Members of District 5040:
What an honour it is to serve as the District Governor for 2005-2006, the first year of our second century of service. In the past year, we have looked back, celebrated and have highlighted the achievements of 100 years of Rotary service, remembering that it all starts with you, at the club level.
As we launch into the second century, we will build on the great foundation of Rotary with the theme, "Service Above Self" a motto used since early 1900's.
Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, RI President, stated, "you and I together shall start writing the first chapter of the new history book of Rotary's second hundred years. We are the leaders who shall set the goals for the future of Rotary."
Fellow Rotarians it is you, each and every member who have the ability to plan and shape the future of Rotary.
As the officer of RI, I have no authority, only responsibility. My responsibility to the clubs of District 5040 is my goals for 2005-2006:

- Promote literacy and education programs
- Address the global water crisis to improve health and alleviate poverty
- Promote the membership goal of ONE net member per club
- Support youth services programs
- Give a renewed focus to ethics in the district
- Assist clubs to enhance the Rotary public image
- Encourage each member to contribute to our charity, The Rotary Foundation, as to his or her ability; suggested by RI, "Each member, Each year"
- Develop a District 5040 Strategic Plan
- Develop a succession plan in all District Committees
- Present a special award at each club to the person identified by the board to exemplify Service Above Self
- Provide each member with a District Directory
- Provide District 5040 with a year end report
