PERSONAL

Mentor M. Boney was born in Southern Missouri in 1889. Graduation at William Jewell College in 1911, B. A. degree, was followed by three years in the Philippine Bureau of Education. This service in the Far East made possible con¬siderable travel which included the port cities of the Far East, Malay Penninsula and Burma, extensive travel in India, Egypt and several countries in Europe.

He moved to Oregon in 1914, saw service in the U. S. Marines during WWI, which duty terminated in the Second Marine Officers Training Camp at Quantico at the close of the war.

He married in 1919 and had two sons, both Rotarians. He became identified with the Cooperative movement in dairy manufacturing and was Manager of the Eugene Farmers Creamery from 1919 to 1929, and from 1929 to 1952 was General Manager of Whatcom County Dairymen's Association at Bellingham, Washington. Two additional years were spent with Darigold Farms in Seattle, retiring from the dairy business in 1955. He served as President of both the Oregon and Washington Dairy Manufacturing Associations, and was a member of the Executive Committee of the American Dry Milk Institute, a national association of dry milk manufacturers, for 15 years.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

His civic services to Bellingham and Whatcom County were many. He spent many terms as a Director of the Chamber of Commerce, and headed the United Way drive. For many years before his death in 1962, he was a trustee of the Baptist Church.

ROTARY

He became a member of the Rotary Club of Bellingham in 1930, and was its President during the depression years of 1934-35, which were especially hard on the economy of Bellingham. Because of that the Club closed out its oldest project, "The Crippled Children's Fund", but continued to support Community Fund drives to continue character building services in the community.

During his year as Governor he was especially interested in promoting the Rotary Foundation, and successfully chartered the Langley Club.
