Thanks to the hard work of our PDG Penny Offer,  DG Hans Doge and  Rotary 5040 Board Members have now signed a partnership agreement with DECODA Literacy Solutions. This partnership is in effect until July 1/2014 with a possibility of renewal at that time.

Last year many of you told us about the partnerships you had already forged with community literacy organisations, often through the Literacy Outreach coordinators in your communities, and how successful these partnerships are in improving the literacy skills and the well being of members of your own communities. Your collaborations encouraged us to move to the next level and formalize a partnership with Decoda with the goal to increase the awareness of literacy as a strategy to improve individual well- being.

We are looking to our District 5040 members to continue to forge those links in the community and tell us about your plans and successes in the New Year.

Our first commitment to District 5040 Rotarians is to tell your stories and to keep the Decoda link in our District Newsletter.

Mobilizing the skills, interests and abilities of fellow district 5040 Rotarians to work towards enhanced literacy skills is not only a major goal of Rotary International, but also in the interests of every business and professional person in our communities.

Your Rotary District 5040 Literacy champions, Patricia Porter and Frances Kolotyluk, urge you to look for opportunities to partner with interested groups and individuals throughout the year. A great place for you to start is Family Literacy Day, January 26th 2012.

For clubs that have not already formed a relationship with a Literacy Outreach Coordinator in your area, including the lower mainland, contact Lori Walker at Decoda: lwalker@decoda.ca or 604-881-4199 local 411, she is looking forward to your calls in the New Year.
