District Governors message – November
November is Rotary Foundation Month – A time to reflect on the coming winter and the many blessings we have.

November is such a dreary month – leaves falling, rain, snow, cold winds and regrets over the many tasks that we did not complete in the better weather. If you are like me and do not really enjoy winter then it may seem to be a depressing time of the year, but if you look forward to spending time outdoors enjoying winter sports or curling up in front of a fire with a good book then November is the start of a very special season.

Why would Rotary International determine that November should be Foundation month? And why would World Interact Week and Rotary Day at the UN be slotted in for the first week of such a dreary time? The question encourages some thought …. Maybe November as the month of remembrance is also an ideal time to reflect. The rain would be a blessing is some parts of the world, the cool winds a relief and the tasks not completed should remind us that there is plenty for Rotarians to do around the world.

Having an World Interact Week reminds us of our future - the future of community service and the need to involve our young people in making our world a better place; and certainly Rotary Day at the United Nations reminds us of the contribution of Rotary to World Understanding and Peace, that there are better ways to solve problems than by taking up arms. November is a month of reflection – Remembrance - and perhaps the best time to consider where we are and where we are going – as people, as Rotarians, as nations.

As we anticipate the coming winter let us reflect on ways that we can help those who need our help.  For more than 107 years Rotarians have been dedicated to helping others in their communities and throughout the world.

Many of the things we think about and what others know about Rotary have been made possible because of Rotarians support for our foundation.

By donating to the Foundation, you support Rotary's six areas of focus, which help advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Contributions to the Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative, are the primary source of funding for Foundation programs. By giving US$100 a year through EREY, you really can make a difference in the life of someone less fortunate than us.
