July...

I knew my year as Governor would go fast and sure enough the first month has flown by in a flash. I must say I am having a very enjoyable time traveling the District doing my official visits and getting to know so many of you.

I expect to have many high points in my year as DG and I know that one of them will have been attending RYLA Lakelse. At the beginning of July I had the privilege of joining students, session leaders and local Rotarians at RYLA Lakelse.  Ever since I joined Rotary I have listened to students returning from RYLA speak to our club about their experience at RYLA and now, just like them, I have been able to attend this marvelous event. It was amazing to see the young adults there grow in confidence, and gain a greater awareness of themselves and the difference they can make in their communities and the world. My congratulations to the many people involved in making this such a wonderful weekend for the students.  I know it is a Rotary experience I will always treasure.

On July 24th I had my first club visit at the Rotary Club of Prince George. It was great to hear about the impressive work they do in Prince George and they were all very gracious in not saying anything about how long my talk was.  AG Lorne timed me and it was 26 minutes (I have now shortened it!)  While there I had the opportunity to present Rotarian Bob Hlina with a Major Donor pin.  Congratulations, Bob, on achieving this milestone in giving and for all your support to The Rotary Foundation.  Donors like you make it possible for the Rotary Foundation to support the good work of Rotarians around the world.

The following day I drove to Mackenzie and what a beautiful drive it was. I have never been to Mackenzie before and had not realized what an industrious place it is or what an enthusiastic and hardworking club they are.  Their big project right now is a skate board park for the youth in their area.  While I was there they were discussing their duck drop to raise money for events in the community and projects they work on with seniors at the local seniors centre. For a club with only 11 members it is remarkable the work they do in their community.

I am excited about visiting more clubs in the coming months and I look forward to having the opportunity to meet every one of you.

Till next month,
DG Rebecca
