Hello Rotarians,

At the 1917 Rotary Convention in Atlanta, Past President Arch C. Klumph proposed a revolutionary idea: an endowment fund for the purpose of doing good in the world. Since that first donation of $26.50 the Rotary Foundation has grown tremendously and in many ways, serves as the foundation for Rotary as we know it today.

The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. As the charitable arm of Rotary, we tap into a global network of Rotarians who invest their time, money, and expertise into our priorities, such as eradicating polio and promoting peace. Foundation grants empower Rotarians to tackle challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition with sustainable solutions that leave a lasting impact.

This November is particularly special for Rotary. We’re not just celebrating Foundation Month, but also The Rotary Foundation’s centennial. There are many ways to join us in celebrating 100 years of changing lives and improving communities all over the world. Visit our Celebrating the Centennial page for more information and ideas.

A couple additional reasons to celebrate the Foundation centennial year:
  1. Charity Navigator upgrades Rotary Foundation’s rating
  2. Rotary Foundation Named World’s Outstanding Foundation for 2016
This recognition shows that your Foundation follows best practices and executes its mission in a financially efficient way.

Around the District

This has been another very busy month visiting Clubs in the Lower Mainland. I have heard about local community projects, many started through district grants : dentistry programs that provide free dental for the underprivileged,  Rotary apartment  towers that house low income seniors, AEDs for the Justice Institute, proposed water parks, help with the CKNW Orphan’s Fund, domestic abuse services, providing food to the homeless, amazing youth programs, scholarships, and much more.

Internationally there are global grants to create Bio Medical Engineering services in Uganda, hearing projects, work done in Vietnam and the Philippines, loading containers with the Rotary World Help , water and sanitation projects in the Congo, functional rehabilitation for the late in life blind, Vocational and literacy training for girls and unwed mothers, installation of solar panels, and much more.

Our clubs are so busy with creative projects. Please showcase your club on our website in the Club of the Week section. Every club is unique and doing good in the world.
