What the District 5040-5050 Peace Forum?

The District 5040-5050 Peace Forum is an opportunity for Rotarians and friends of Rotary of different ages from different parts of our districts and beyond to gather to share ideas and develop strategies to progress toward a more peaceful world.

RI President 2012-13 Sakuji Tanaka stated "Peace, in all of the ways that we can understand it, is a real goal and a realistic goal for Rotary, peace is not something that can only be achieved through agreements, by governments, or through heroic struggles. It is something that we can find and that we can achieve, every day and in many simple ways."

Desired Outcomes for the Peace Forum

  • To develop community and global peace projects.
  • To build a close working relationship between Rotarians from different clubs and districts.
  • To establish bonds of friendship and collaboration.
  • To encourage continued participation in the projects that are developed as a result of this collaboration so that they become a springboard for change.

Topics being discussed for inclusion on the Peace Forum agenda include:

  • Building Civic Peace – working to eliminate bullying
  • Understand how Rotary clubs can take a community leadership role in promoting peace locally and internationally
  • The role of Rotary Peace Centers in building global peace
  • Establishing partnerships for local and international peace service projects
